| FT | It's all over here at the Orlando Stadium with neither Bafana nor Algeria able to find a goal. It was a solid showing from the hosts who once again struggled in front of goal, but at least they did not concede... | ||
| 90+1 | Phala remains full of running but he runs out of field on the right following a long ball forward from Sangweni. | ||
There will be four minutes of added time... | |
Phala does well to win a corner from a long ball forwards from Letsholonyane. Shabba takes and Parker gets to the bal but can't direct it goalward under pressure from Halliche. | |
YELLOW CARD: Cadamuro. | |
It have become a cagey affair with just under five minutes to play... | |
Good work from Shabba to release Rantie down the left but his cross is poor and easily collected by Algeria keeper Mbolhi. | |
Algeria Sub: Ryad Boudebouz is on for Sofiane Feghouli. | |
Bafana could have a penalty for hand ball but it's not given - this following a well-hit free-kick from the right from Letsholonyane. | |
Algeria Sub: Mohamed Aoudia replaces Slimani. | |
Great work from Phala through the middle to beat two men, but his little touch to Parker is just inches too close to the keeper and the chance is lost. | |
Algeria Sub: Saad Tedjar is on for Adlene Guedioura. | |
Super turn from Feghouli to set up another attack but his ball to Slimani is over hit. | |
Great tackle from Sangweni on the edge of the box on Slimani to bring to end a sweeping attack from Algeria. | |
YELLOW CARD: Rantie. | |
Great run down the left from Bouazza who manages to get his cross in but Gaxa is there to clear the danger. | |
Great effort from Shabba on the volley from the left-hand side that flies just over the Algeria goal. | |
It's getting a bit scrappy out there with Algeria specifically going in hard on Bafana. | |
Algeria Sub: Liassine Cadamuro takes the place of Khaled Lemmouchia. | |
Bafana Sub: Tokelo Rantie is on for Mphela. | |
A Parker ball from the left finds its way to Shabba whose shot is deflected out for a corner. | |
Good work from Shabba to release Matlaba down the left but the latter is taken out by Djamel Mesbah before he can get his cross in. | |
Algeria Sub: Carl Medjani makes way for Rafik Halliche as Hilal Soudani comes on for Foued Kadir. | |
Good shot on the turn from Letsholonyane from the edge of the box, that flies narrowly wide of the target. | |
Slimani cuts inside Sangweni but his shot is straight at Khune. | |
Bafana Sub: Reneilwe Letsholonyane is on for Furman. | |
Bafana Sub: Siphiwe Tshabalala takes the place of Serero. | |
Gaxa concedes a foul on Foued Kadir for a free-kick out wide left for Algeria that is well over hit. | |
Slimani on the left picks out Medjani in the centre who returns the ball to the back post where Slimani is waiting, and he has a shot at goal that hits the side netting. | |
Feghouli goes down in the box looking for a penalty but play is waved on... | |
Serero looked to be through on goal down the middle but he is stopped in his tracks by Bouazza. | |
Algeria kick off... | |
| Bafana Sub: Siboniso Gaxa replaces Anele Ngcongca ahead of the start of the second half. | |||
| The two sides are back out for the start of this second half... | |||
| HT | Well, we have reached the half-time break with the score still level at 0-0. Not a bad performance from Bafana although Algeria have threatened on more than occasion. It should be a fascinating second half so don't go anywhere... | ||
There is one minute of added time... | |
Belkalem comes close to opening the scoring with a close-range header from a Bouazza free-kick from the right-hand side that flies just over Khune in the Bafana goal. | |
Super change of pace from Parker to beat Lemmouchia on the edge of the box before unleashing a curling effort that is well saved. | |
Two good chances in quick succession for South Africa as first Mphela shoots straight at the keeper with time and space to pick a corner before Phala sees his shot from the left fly wide of the goal. | |
Islam Slimani skies his shot well over the bar after a breakaway by Algeria following a poor free-kick by Phala that is easily picked out of the air by the visiting goalkeeper. | |
Khune does well to close down the space as Kadir races on goal. The stopper makes the save and concedes a corner - that is well hit towards Guedioura who gets a foot to the ball but is not able to direct his effort on target. | |
This is better from Bafana as the ball is sprayed around with purpose but this time Ngcongca's ball into the box is over hit... | |
Ngcongca now to deliver a ball into the box, a cross from the right-hand side, but Belkalem gets there ahead of Mphela. | |
Bafana win a free-kick in a dangerous position to the right of the Algeria goal for a foul on Mphela. It's a great delivery to the back post where Sangweni rises to challenge Mbolhi but the keeper gets to the ball first. | |
It's all Algeria now with Sofiane Feghouli directing their play through the middle of the park. But Bafana win a corner after a quick breakaway - its a better delivery but again bypasses everyone in a yellow shirt. | |
YELLOW CARD: Dikgacoi | |
Another chance for Algeria as Hameur Bouazza is fed the ball out wide on the left but he too can't direct his shot on target. | |
Some incisive play from Algeria saw Belkalem cut inside Khumalo on the edge of the box before teeing up Foued Kadir but he is only able to slice his shot wide of the target. | |
Serero delivers a perfect ball to Dikgacoi in the box but with time and space to bring the ball down and pick his spot, he opts for a bicycle kick and completely misses the ball. | |
Parker skies an effort well over the bar after some neat interplay with Serero... | |
Bafana continue to look comfortable on the ball but will need to raise the tempo if they are to get in behind this Algerian defence... | |
Parker's cross from the left is deep and lands at the feet of Phala but his touch is poor and the chance is wasted. | |
Algeria are looking the more dangerous side and Bafana survive an early scare as the referee waves play on when it looked as if the visitors should have had a free-kick on the edge of the box. | |
Bafana have settled into a nice passing rhythm but are struggling to break down their North African opponents. | |
Djamel Mesbah gets his foot to the ball to deflect Phala's cross out for a corner - that comes to nothing as it flies over everyone and out on the opposite side of the pitch. | |
Serero tries to release Phala down the right, but his ball is over hit this time. | |
Sangweni tries to find Mphela with a long ball straight through the middle of the park but his pass is over hit and only finds the hands of Algeria stopper Rais Mbolhi. | |
A fairly subdued start by both sides but it is the hosts who look to get forward first, through Matlaba down the left hand side, although his foray is halted before he can get his cross in. | |
South Africa kick off... | |
| Thulani Serero also starts ahead of Siphiwe Tshabalala while Thabo Matlaba takes his place ahead of Tsepo Masilela... | |||
| So Parker starts in place of Chabangu up front as Furman comes in for Letsholonyane in midfield. | |||

| Some interesting facts while we wait for kick-off: Algeria were crowned AFCON winners in 1990 and have appeared at the World Cup three times. They are ranked 19th in the world and second in Africa behind the Ivory Coast. The two sides have faced each other twice in the past, with Bafana defeating the North Africans 2-1 in the quarter-finals in 1996 before a 1-1 draw in a Group B match in Ghana in 2000. | |||
| Kick off is scheduled for 8:15 and I'll post the team line-ups here as soon as I have them... | |||
| And ahead of their opener against Cape Verde, who recently lost 1-0 to Ghana before drawing 0-0 draw with Nigeria in their own warm-up matches, Bafana will be eager to put in a solid performance and bang in some goals!! | |||
| South Africa come into this match on the back of a demoralising 1-0 defeat to a make-shift Norway side at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday where they created plenty of chances without hitting the back of the net. | |||
