FT FULL-TIME: And that's it! Chiefs leave tonight's encounter with three deserved points to take them four clear at the top. It's a possible trip into the relegation zone for Ajax Cape Town, who really have to find a way to plug their slump this season. Well, I hope you've enjoyed it. For Football411, I'm Ryan Gordon wishing you a great rest of your week. Until next time, cheers all!
90+4 Almost a fourth for Chiefs as Majoro gets on the end of a delivery with just the keeper to beat, but Westerveld pulls off a decent save to keep out the striker's close-range header.
90+2 Ajax CEO George Comitis is looking a glum man in the stands, and so he should be. The Urban Warriors may have to start accepting the fact they're in for a very long season.
90 Ajax Cape Town have more four minutes of agony to endure as the referee shows how much added time there is to be played.
88 SUBSTITUTION: I think this is more precautionary than anything else as Siphiwe Tshabalala leaves the field of play. George Lebese is the man to replace him, and will get two minutes plus stoppages to join in the fun here.
86 Chiefs are threatening a real hammering here tonight, but Westerveld is finally of some use as he gets a decent block in on Parker's low shot.
85 So close to a brace for Shabba now as he sweeps forward with purpose, stumbles over two challenges before breaking through on goal, but he can only skew his shot wide at the far-post.
81 SUBSTITUTION: Third and finally change for Ajax now as Tafadzwa Rusike is introduced for Nhlanhla Vilakazi, the substitute having picked up an injury and needing to be stretchered off.
78 A rare attack from Ajax now as Booth rises well to meet a deep free-kick, but Khune shows superb reactions to make the save and hold on to the danger.
76 It's an onslaught from Chiefs here, and they've all but sealed the points tonight. Just moments after Bernard Parker's sumptuous curling effort cannons off the crossbar with Sander Westerveld completely unmoved, Siphiwe Tshabalala produces an equally stunning effort, but this one finds the very top corner as a quickly worked free-kick ends with the Bafana Bafana international's 30-yard drive flying past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
75 GOAL! Chiefs 3-0 Ajax CT! Siphiwe Tshabalala!
74 UPDATE: No change in the scores of tonight's other matches, which just to remind you are: Golden Arrows 1-0 Moroka Swallows, Maritzburg 0-0 Bloem Celtic and SuperSport 0-0 Platinum Stars.
72 If Ajax hope to get anything out of this game they're going to need a goal pretty soon, but at the moment they don't seem able to create anything close to a scoring opportunity.
69 That's both of the PSL's top scorers on for Chiefs now, with Parker and Majoro having netted a combined 15 goals so far this season. Ominous stuff for the Cape Town clan.
68 SUBSTITUTION: Meanwhile, Jan Pruijn continues to mix it up, with Nhlanhla Vilakazi on for Wanderson, while Stuart Baxter makes his first change, Kingston Nkhatha off for Lehlohonolo Majoro.
66 Chiefs have doubled their advantage, but Sander Westerveld will be furious with himself as the goalkeeper fails to keep out Siboniso Gaxa's low drive at his near-post. It was some really decent build-up for the league leaders, and they're more than happy to celebrate the goal.
65 GOAL! Chiefs 2-0 Ajax CT! Siboniso Gaxa!
64 SUBSTITUTION: Matthew Grobler makes his return from injury as he replaces Toriq Losper.
62 Really good chance for Parker to get a dangerous ball across the six-yard area as he shows plenty of diski to skin his marker, but he lifts the ball instead of playing it along the floor, and it loops over everyone and the chance goes begging.
61 YELLOW CARD: The first booking of the night goes the way of former Ajax Cape Town man Willard Katsande, he clatters Tsepo Masilela over in the middle of the park.
60 Nkhatha shows plenty of brute strength to muscle Booth out of possession, but his attempted through-ball to Parker is hit all wrong and curls away from the run of his strike partner.
58 Kingston Nkhatha has the ball in the back of the net, but it won't count as the linesman had correctly flagged for off-side.
55 Losper asking far too much of Wanderson as his attempted pass with the outside of his boot not quite pulling off as the ball bounces out just ahead of the chasing Brazilian.
52 There's been very little in the way of goal-mouth action so for in the second period, with the play being limited mostly to the midfield, which is becoming increasingly compact as both sets of strikers are sitting much deeper than in the first-half.
49 Ajax seem happy to hang back with the ball as Westerveld and Aiden Jenniker trade a couple of passes with Parker chasing, probably relying on Chiefs to push forward, with Jan Pruijn maybe thinking a counter-attack is the most likely key to unlocking this Chiefs defence.
47 Chiefs attack early from a corner, but Nkhatha's header is wayward and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
46 And we're back up and running for the second-half!
HT HALF-TIME: With almost three minutes of injury time being played, the referee brings the opening 45 minutes to a close. It's been a thoroughly entertaining encounter so far, so more of the same in the second-half, please. Join me after the break to find out.
45 Replays show that Sander Westerveld is actually probably lucky to still be on the field, with the goalkeeper not once, but twice, elbowing Bernard Parker in the face before shoving the striker to the ground. Very unsporting behaviour from Dutchman indeed. Meanwhile, there will be just one added minute, of which has already ticked over.
44 A bit of a tussle in the box results in the set-piece being delayed as the referee looks to sort out any trouble-making from either side, and when the ball's finally drilled in it is easily headed away by the Ajax defence.
42 Kingston Nkhathta looks to have been brought down inside the area after running onto a ball over the top, but the referee is not interested and waves play-on. Instead of protesting the decision, though, the hosts get back on with the business at hand and Tshabalala completely loses his marker before cutting into the area, but he takes too long to get his pass away and the ball is cleared for a corner.
40 The question now is how will Ajax respond. The possession stats over the last 10 minutes or so have tilted completely in the favour of Chiefs, although the Urban Warriors are enjoying a decent spell at the moment, although they would prefer turning that into more goal-scoring opportunities, I'm sure.
37 It's taken 36 minutes but Chiefs are in front, although they have a big deflection to thank for it as Bernard Parker's drive from outside the area whips off the thigh of Matthew Booth before looping over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
36 GOAL! Chiefs 1-0 Ajax CT! Bernard Parker!
34 The delivery is decent but doesn't find a man in white, allowing the Chiefs defenders and easy clearance.
33 Brilliant stuff from Ajax Cape Town as Khama Billiant cuts this way and that inside the Chiefs area to get off a stinging drive, but it's even better from Itumeleng Khune who acrobatically dives to his left to just tip the ball out for a corner...
31 UPDATE: There's three other games currently under way in South Africa's top-flight, with those scores reading: Golden Arrows 1-0 Moroka Swallows, Maritzburg 0-0 Bloem Celtic and SuperSport 0-0 Platinum Stars.
29 Excellent work from Kingston Nkhatha who runs to the by-line before cutting past his marker and picking out Bernard Parker in front of goal, but his touch is heavy and the ball rolls just too far away for a shot, allowing the defenders to get in a necessary boot.
27 Chiefs threaten from the left now with Tshabalala putting a decent delivery into the area, but the ball is over everyone and comes through to Ajax's winger who can take the ball up field.
26 Meanwhile, the statistics show a surprising bit of information, with Ajax enjoying the lion's share of possession here so far, enjoying 59% of the ball compared to Chiefs' 41%.
25 The rain's been coming down for some time now, but it's really starting to pick up and is making for a really slick surface. Perfect for a solid passing game, but neither side have yet developed one as a few balls go miss-placed.
23 Ajax are on the break and in full-flight, but Masilela shows blistering pace to get back and clear the ball to safety.
20 A let off for Booth as he swipes at a routine clearance with Parker lurking, but the defender is let off the hook as the linesman's flag had already been raised for off-side.
17 The fouls are coming thick and fast at the moment, with Tsepo Masilela bringing down Costa Viana Wanderson from behind. The resulting set-piece is a dangerous one and finds Aiden Jenniker unmarked at the far-post, but he can't direct his header and ends up putting the ball miles out of play.
15 That was close. The ball is put into the far post with a devilish curl, but the defenders are aware to the danger and just get to the delivery ahead of the awaiting Chiefs attack.
14 Chiefs have another free-kick in a similar position as the previous one as Booth brings down Nkhatha...
12 A free-kick for Chiefs in a promising position is played short before eventually being looped into the area, but it's straight to the goalkeeper who duly plucks the ball out of the air.
10 Up at the other end and Chiefs threaten again, Siboniso Gaxa breaking the full length of the pitch only to see his rasping drive flash narrowly wide.
9 Losper tries to get past Eric Mathoho with some trickery down the wing, but the Amakhosi defender stands strong and eventually wins back possession, much to the liking of the home fans.
7 The referee adjudged the ball to have taken a touch off a Chiefs player on its way out, and Booth almost makes the corner count but can only head just over the crossbar.
6 Decent move from Ajax now as Toriq Losper plays a neat one-two before having a pop at goal, but he doesn't get enough purchase or direction on his effort and Itumeleng Khune can watch the ball roll out of play.
3 A mistake from the Urban Warriors allows Siphiwe Tshabalala to burst through on goal before unleashing from inside the area, but Sander Westerveld makes a decent save from a tight angle, while Kingston Nkhatha's follow-up header is blocked by Matthew Booth.
1 The referee gets us up and running! Kaizer Chiefs are in their very fashionable black and gold striped kit, while Ajax are in their traditional red and white.
The two teams are being led out by the referee, meaning this PSL match is just moments away from getting under way...
FEEDBACK: There's still roughly 20 minutes to go until kick-off, so here's your chance to get the banter going by emailing your thoughts or predictions to ryan.gordon@teamtalkmedia.com.
The coastal club will have the PSL's two top-scorers to deal with this evening in in Bernard Parker and Lehlohonolo Majoro, but speaking to Football411 ahead of the tie, Pruijn said: "(Chiefs) are a high scoring team, comprising of two top goal scorers in the league and we must come up with a strategy to try and stop them. Whether it will be (Matthew) Booth, Nazeer (Allie), Thulani (Hlatshwayo) or Aiden (Jennicker) playing, they will have a certain job to do. But we will prepare the same way we always do when coming up against two strikers of good quality."
The Urban Warriors, meanwhile, will be after the three points for an entirely different reason, with the Mother City outfit looking to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap with more than a third of the season already done and dusted. Interim coach Jan Pruijn did see his side earn victory against the Chilli Boys last time out, although that result left them just two points above the drop-zone with 12 games played.
To make tonight's game even more important for Chiefs is the fact they face their old foes Pirates in the Soweto derby on Saturday. That means a loss or a draw for the Glamour Boys tonight and a win for the Buccaneers against strugglers Chippa United on Wednesday would see Stuart Baxter's men kick-off this weekend's proceedings behind the Sea Robbers. A strange fact, considering just last week Chiefs found themselves five points clear of the chasing pack.
So, Chiefs showed they are far from unbeatable this season after they went down 2-0 to Platinum Stars last time out, Amakhosi's first loss of the season. The result turned out to be a pretty big one in the title race, with Orlando Pirates taking full advantage to climb to within one point of the leaders.
