Well, it was a game of numerous chances, but in the end it was only one of those that counted. I hope you've enjoyed yourself, I'm Ryan Gordon wishing you a great rest of your weekend. Cheers all!
120+1 FULL-TIME: And that's it! Sundowns are through to the Nedbank Cup last-16, while Ajax Cape Town can only wonder about what could have been.
120 Just one minute of added time in the second-half of extra-time for Ajax Cape Town to force an unlikely penalty shoot-out. They might argue they've deserved a goal tonight, but if you can't take your chances...
118 Heartbreak for Ajax Cape Town as Sundowns snatch what is surely the winner. It's Tebogo Langerman who gets the all-important strike, unleashing a blistering 30-yard drive which Sander Westerveld probably should have dealt with, but it squeezes past the keeper's gloves and into the back of the net.
117 GOAL! Ajax Cape Town 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns! Tebogo Langerman!
115 Nyasha Mushekwi gets goal-side of his marker to get on the end of a dangerous ball into the area, but his header is off target and bounces harmlessly wide.
114 There's some tired looking legs out there and a number of passes area beginning to go astray. Around six minutes left for them, and I'm sure both coaches will be asking for the players to dig deep and give it their all in the closing stages.
111 Nhlanhla Shabalala needs some treatment after being taken out, and Ajax will hope he's okay to carry on as they've already made all three substitutions this evening.
110 Sundowns have a corner here which is floated into the area, but the Ajax defenders rise highest and can clear the danger.
108 Hlompho Kekana tries his luck with a volley from some 25-yards out, and he's not too far off with his effort, but sees the ball dip over the bar.
106 After a very short break the game gets back under way, and Downs look like they've finally found a way through as Nyasha Mushekwi comes running into the area to meet a dangerous cross, and although he gets his head to the ball first, he's just off target as his effort fizzes just over the crossbar.
105 HALF-TIME IN EXTRA-TIME: The referee brings the first-half of extra-time to an end, and still these sides cannot be separated. We'll have another 15 minutes, and if we're still level after that it will all be decided by penalties.
103 That would have been something truly spectacular from Khama Billiat as he loses his marker to get on the end of a deep delivery from out wide, and with the ball dropping over his shoulder he pulls off a simply stunning volley on the turn that flashes only inches wide up the up-right. That easily would have been the goal of the tournament right then and there.
100 Manqele now has the chance to make up for that mistake as he controls a cross at the near-post before setting himself to shoot, but his marker is across quickly and forces the forward to fire his effort well wide.
99 A bit of a miscue from Edward Manqele now as he finds himself in possession with plenty of options ahead of him, but he goes for the worst of them with a cross to the far-post, although he overcooks his delivery and the ball sails out for a goal-kick.
96 Ajax gifted the chance to attack now as Khama Billiat is handed possession before breaking down the wing and looking to thread the ball through for Mabhudi Khenyeza, but the Downs defenders just manage to squeeze out possession to prevent the substitute from having a clear sight of goal.
94 It's been more of the same in terms of Sundowns' possession, although they haven't yet been able to get behind the defence - something they enjoyed on numerous occasions during the opening 90 minutes.
91 After a short break the referee gets the first-half of extra-time under way!
90+3 FULL-TIME - The match will go to extra-time: Well, the 90 minutes are up and the scores are still, unbelievably, level at 0-0, meaning we're in for an additional 30 minutes.
90+1 Nhlanhla Shabalala knows exactly what he's doing as he ankle-taps Hlompho Kekana to the floor as the midfielder threatened to break through the middle of the park. The referee is sufficiently fooled though and only awards a free-kick.
90 The fourth official shows there are only three additional minutes separating this match and extra-time.
88 A chance for Ajax now with a free-kick from the corner of the big-box, but it's completely wasted and Sundowns instantly have possession a break on the counter, although a wayward pass sees the move break down on the edge of the area.
87 SUBSTITUTION: The striker seems to have pulled something in his back there and won't be able to continue, with Edward Manqele coming on in his place.
86 Great chance for Sundowns to snatch it at the death as Matthew Booth loses possession in his own third to allow Esrom Nyandoro to put a pin-point delivery in for Katlego Mphela, but with all the goal to aim for he could only direct his header over the crossbar.
85 SUBSTITUTION: Final throw of the dice for Ajax now as the hard-working Wanderson comes off, with former Urban Warriors skipper and midfield general Granwald Scott taking his place.
83 Wanderson tries to work some magic for his side and he looks a threat as he runs at the defenders, but he's eventually crowded out of possession and Sundowns can work the ball back up to the other half of the field.
80 We're into the final 10 minutes here in Cape Town and it's still goalless, and although neither side will likely want the burden of extra-time, you can bet they won't give up their title bid just to avoid it.
78 Katlego Mphela has a go now from open play, and he's not too far away but his shot swerves up at the last moment, although it looked like Westerveld had it covered.
77 Here's another free-kick for Downs, in an even better position that the previous one. It's one off the training ground as Mphela lines up a shot to disguise his eventual pass to Pelembe, but he's unable to get the ball into a dangerous area from out wide and the ball is cleared up field.
75 A decent chance for Sundowns to get the ball in the area now after winning a free-kick some 30-yards out, but in an attempt to take it quickly the strikers are caught unawares, while the Ajax defenders remain alert to sheppard the ball to the keeper.
72 Khama Billiat shows just why he's so popular at Ajax as he produces a sublime touch to take down a cross-field ball before pushing past his marker and chopping back inside to open a shooting chance, but his effort is straight at the keeper, as has been the story at times tonight.
70 Meanwhile, Travis Graham goes down following an awkward challenge and he looks to be in a bit of pain here, but he's eventually on his feet and limps off to the sidelines, but I think he will be okay to carry on.
69 The noise inside the stadium has risen dramatically in the last few minutes as both sets of fans start realising there's not too much longer left to find a winner before we head into extra-time.
66 SUBSTITUTION: Changes coming thick and fast now, with the wasteful Lebogang Manyama making way for Mabhudi Khenyeza.
63 SUBSTITUTION: Pitso Mosimane with another change now as he brings off Alje Schut for Wayne Arendse.
62 Sundowns threaten with another move as Pelembe is played down the right wing before squaring the ball to the edge of the area to pick out Katlego Mphela, but he doesn't get the right connection and his first-time shot rolls well wide of the post.
61 Sander Westerveld, who hasn't had much of anything today, shows good awareness now to get a strong palm to Anthony Laffor's shot after the forward was allowed to gallop to the edge of the area unchallenged. The keeper lets his team-mates know exactly what he thought of that defending...
60 An hour gone here at the Cape Town Stadium and, despite numerous first-half chances, it's still goalless. If it stays this way after 90 minutes it's straight into extra-time, and if they still can't be separated after that we'll have a penalty shoot-out.
57 I don't know what Lance Davids is doing here, but he just seems to pump the ball aimlessly towards the opposition goal from the half-way line, with the ball eventually flying over Sandilands' crossbar.
54 YELLOW CARD: This could be the first time I have ever seen a yellow card given for a high boot, but that's exactly was has happened to Travis Graham. There was nothing intentional about it, and his 'victim' hardly even flinched, so a bit of a harsh decision from the match official there.
53 SUBSTITUTION: A change for Sundowns now, with Teko Modise making way for Nyasha Mushekwi.
52 More smart defending from Booth now as he lures the attacker into a foul after cutting off an attempted through-ball from the middle of the park.
50 Wanderson is definitely the target of many a Sundowns challenge, and the Brazilian whizz is again floored following a bit of a cynical shove from Anthony Laffor.
47 YELLOW CARD: A yellow card just moments after the restart for Sundowns defender Alje Schut, who just bundled his man over in plain sight of the referee. From the free-kick the ball is headed into the path of Lebogang Manyama, but with a shot very much on the cards, the forward opts to instead play the ball back across the face of goal, but three defenders are there and the ball is well cleared.
46 SUBSTITUTION: Just one change to tell you about at the break, with Ajax bringing on Khama Billiat for Tafadzwa Rusike.
46 And we're back up and running for the second-half!
45+2 HALF-TIME: The half comes to an end following a delay for Wanderson to receive some treatment, and the sides head down the tunnel knowing the scores should be very different. But as it stands it goalless here in Cape Town, so join me after the break for the second 45.
45 Matthew Booth, as is par for the course, puts in a vital sliding tackle to just cut out Pelembe's low delivery across the area, with Mphela lurking just behind the Bafana Bafana man. Meanwhile, there will be just one minute added on here at the end of the half.
44 Travis Graham draws some oooohs from the crowd now as a corner falls invitingly for him on the edge of the area, but his shot is always rising and eventually flashes over the crossbar
43 Good covering by Lance Davids now as he tracks the run of Katlego Mphela to eventually nudge the ball away from the striker and force the forward to commit a foul to help ease some building pressure from the visitors.
39 There's been some truly unbelievable misses so far in this match, and Tafadzwa Rusike is the latest to put a great chance wide after being played in over the top only to take one touch too many in the area, with the defenders quickly closing him down and forcing his effort to fly well wide of the mark.
37 Nhlanhla Shabalala threatens for Ajax now as he gets on the end of Rusike's tee-up, but his swerving shot from the edge of the area fizzes just the wrong side of the angle.
36 It's Sundowns who waste a golden chance to open the scoring now as Pelembe runs clean through on goal with only Westerveld to beat, but the Downs man puts his effort straight into the arms of the keeper.
35 Free-kick for Sundowns right in the corner now which Elias Pelembe whips in dangerously, and although the ball appears to go out off the head of Matthew Booth, the referee instead points for a goal-kick.
31 The play has reverted back to a midfield battle following those two golden opportunities for the hosts, and they're almost made to pay for it as Katlego Mphela shows sublime control to bring down a fierce delivery into the area, but the striker is quickly closed down and can't get his shot away.
27 YELLOW CARD: First booking of the evening now as Lance Davids goes into the referee's book for a reckless foul in midfield.
26 If you thought that miss was a poor one, this one is even worse. Wanderson does superbly to work his way between two defenders and into the area before squaring the ball to an unmarked Lebogang Manyama at the far-post, but from a few yards out he can only spoon his effort over the crossbar.
23 What a chance for Ajax to snatch the lead very much against the run of play! A seemingly innocuous free-kick is lofted into the area, and the Sundowns defenders hardly budge, along with all the other Ajax players except Nusa Lebusa, who wonders into the area with all the time and space in the world, but his header is an awkward one and bounces down into the ground and into the hands of the grateful goalkeeper. He really should have done better there, the youngster.
20 Lebogang Manyama is played in down the wing by a fine ball from the back, but after rushing through at goal his final pass into the area was behind his intended target, and Sundowns can all-too-easily mop up the loose ball.
18 The Urban Warriors have looked flat when they've been able to get hold of the ball, although that hasn't happened too often this evening and that has allowed Downs to slowly start building up a head of steam.
15 The set-piece is wasted though as the delivery loops high in the air and away from goal, allowing the defenders to get a running jump to clear.
14 Ajax appeal for a penalty now as Wanderson goes down inside the area, but the referee only awards a corner, much to the Brazilian's frustration.
12 Anthony Laffor has the Sundowns fans on their feet as his rasping drive from range ripples the net, but it's the side netting that draws some premature celebrations, although they are very short lived.
11 Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela look to link up with some one-two passing on the edge of the area, but the Downs skipper strays off-side before the pass is played through, when really he should never have strayed, considering he was out wide and looking right across the line.
8 Sundowns attack down the right wing and get a decent ball into the area, but Westerveld is a tall lad and has no problem plucking the ball out of the air.
5 Sundowns are enjoying most of the early possession, but they not doing too much with it as the ball stays bogged down in the middle of the park.
2 Early chance for Downs already with a free-kick, although Method Mwanjale's effort from Elias Pelembe's lay-off is smacked into a crowd of bodies.
1 And we're up and running in the Nedbank Cup!
The two sets of sides are led out into a quite glorious Cape Town evening, and the fans inside this stunning venue are well up for this one.
The Cup, then, gives the Mother City side the perfect opportunity to re-ignite their passions, and the scalp of Sundowns would surely light a fire under their backsides and fuel the flames to thaw the icy grip of relegation.
Ajax, meanwhile, desperately need some sort of hope to hold on to in their otherwise grim-looking campaign, with the Urban Warriors currently bobbing about in the relegation zone after failing to win any of their last five PSL outings.
Despite that run, realistically the Nedbank Cup provides the last chance for the Brazilians to earn some silverware this season, having also lost the Telkom Knockout final to Bloemfontein Celtic in December, leaving much to be made up for by the Chloorkop outfit.
So, it's last year's beaten finalists Sundowns who lift the curtain on the 2013 installment, and Pitso Mosimane will be looking to continue his revival of Tshwane giants, having taking over from Dutchman Johan Neeskens in December and guiding the team away from the bottom of the Premier Soccer League table and into a respectable ninth place.
