FT FULL-TIME: And that's it! Pirates go joint-top of the PSL standings, with Kaizer Chiefs only to play tomorrow afternoon. Maritzburg, meanwhile, suffer their third successive PSL defeat but, for now, remain fourth in the standings. Well, I hope you've enjoyed it. For Football411, I'm Ryan Gordon wishing you a great rest of your weekend. Cheers all!
90+3 The away fans are desperate to hear the final whistle go, but there's still more than 60 seconds for them to hold on for. The noise is deafening inside the stadium though.
90+1 Delron Buckley almost sneaks the ball into Senzo Meyiwa's top corner with a cross-come-shot, but the keeper is relieved to see the ball sail behind for a goal-kick.
90 There will be a minimum four minutes injury-time played here at the end of the game.
89 It's eventually delivered into the area but is over McCarthy's head, allowing the defence to just get in and chest the ball back to Walters to collect.
88 Pirates have a free-kick from out wide now and they're sure to take their time over this one.
87 Pirates break four-on-four in a move that ends with Benni McCarthy being lined up for a shot on the edge of the area, but his powerful drive is too close to the keeper who can make a decent save.
85 Maritzburg have five minutes plus added time to salvage what only a few minutes ago seemed a very unlikely point.
84 SUBSTITUTION: Maritzburg make their final change now as well, with Terrence Mandaza making way for Frank Sarfo-Gymafi.
81 SUBSTITUTION: Third and final change for Pirates now, with Daine Klate coming off and Onyekachi Okonkwo the man to replace him
80 Maritzburg may not be so dead-and-buried after all. Some sloppy defending from Pirates sees a loose pass fall perfectly for Cuthbert Malajila, who does not disappoint as he pummels his shot into the very top corner of the goal.
79 GOAL! Maritzburg 1-2 Pirates! Cuthbert Malajila!
77 Sifiso Myeni shows some sublime skill as he losing no fewer than three markers before getting his shot away from the edge of the area, but he was hurried into his shot and can only fire straight at the keeper.
76 It's been over 250 minutes since Maritzburg last found the back of the net, and it doesn't look like changing any time soon as after 76 minutes of this one they're still to get a shot on target.
74 Buckley's doing an awful lot of work to try and get his side back into this game, but the Pirates defenders are looking very comfortable at the moment and do well to absorb any pressure through the middle.
71 Delron Buckley lines up a Maritzburg free-kick, and it's a really decent delivery which picks out Mario Booysen, but he can't direct his powerful header as the ball fizzes wide of the up-right.
70 SUBSTITUTION: The changes coming thick and fast now, with Roger de Sa opting to bring on Bafana Bafana's all-time record goal-scorer Benni McCarthy for Collins Mbesuma. Not a change the home fans will be happy to see, I'm sure.
69 SUBSTITUTION: Followed closely by another change for Maritzburg, with Mthokozisi Yende making way for Byrone Hendricks.
68 SUBSTITUTION: First change for Pirates now, with Thulasizwe Mbuyane coming on for goal-scorer Andile Jali, who appears to have picked up a bit of an injury.
64 Inches away from a third for Pirates now as Thabo Matlaba carries the ball to the by-line before cutting back in and looking to curl his shot into the far corner, but his effort just clips the top of the crossbar before bouncing out for a goal-kick.
61 FEEDBACK: We've got another caller, with Themba from Johannesburg saying: 'Pirates was always gn 2 b the winners in dis 1! BUCS4LIFE!
59 Really unlucky for Cuthbert Malajila now as he finds himself with acres of space to shoot from just a few feet out from goal, but a simply brilliant challenge from Daine Klate sees the ball deflect up and over the crossbar.
57 Too easy for Pirates now as Collins Mbesuma runs onto a ball into the area before holding up play and finally clipping his ball over the far-post where a completely unmarked Andile Jali can head into an empty net.
56 GOAL! Maritzburg 0-2 Pirates! Andile Jali!
55 A corner for Pirates now, but the delivery is woeful and won't trouble the Maritzburg defenders.
53 It's hard to see a way back for the hosts, who had already been struggling to break down the Pirates defence when they had 11 men. Pirates definitely starting to take advantage of the numbers now as they hog possession with the focus on attack.
50 Red CARD: Maritzburg were a goal down, and now they're a man down as well as Ruben Cloete is shown a straight red card for a horrible two-footed lunge in the middle of the park.
49 Great chance for United to draw things level as a dangerous free-kick is not dealt with by Meyiwa, with the ball falling kindly for Terrence Mandaza, but he's unable to keep his effort down and volleys well over.
48 YELLOW CARD: Another card for MAaritzburg, and again it's for speaking back to the referee, with Mario Booysen the man to go into his notebook.
46 SUBSTITUTION: We're back up and running in the second-half! Just one change to tell you about at the break, with Maritzburg United bringing off Rheece Evans, for Thabang Matuka.
HT HALF-TIME: And that's it for the opening 45 minutes. Orlando Pirates take a 1-0 lead into the break, leaving Maritzburg needing a much-improved performance after the break. Join me then to find out how this one ends.
45+2 Maritzburg are enjoying most of the possession going into the break, but they just seem to be out-muscled every time they work their way towards the Pirates goal.
45 The fourth official shows there will be two minutes of added time here at the end of the half.
44 Sangweni thinks he sees Walters off his line, and he's not far away from finding the top corner from some 50-yards out, but his shot just sails wide of the angle, while the goalkeeper had managed to get back anyway.
41 Happy Jele plays a lovely one-two before curling his delivery into the area, but the Maritzburg defence just managed to get to the ball ahead of Mbesuma, who was once more waiting at the far-post to pull the trigger.
39 A deep free-kick from Maritzburg sees Senzo Meyiwa come well out to punch clear, and although he completely misses his connection, the header from Yende is not on target and sails well over the bar.
36 It's all Pirates at the moment, and Klate almost scores a sensational goal after getting on the end of a deep delivery before attempted a bicycle-kick, but he gets it all wrong and can only deflect the ball up and into the keeper's hands.
33 That goal is all down to the work of Daine Klate. The midfielder gets the ball out wide before showing good body strength and balance to maintain possession and get past his marker before digging out a pitch of a delivery, which finds Oupa Manyisa completely unmarked, with the striker taking a touch to control before rifling home from close range.
32 GOAL! Maritzburg 0-1 Pirates! Oupa Manyisa!
30 Jali looks to be in a bad way as he needs to be stretchered off the field of play.
29 Morton appears to bring Andile Jali down in a clear foul, but the referee saw it differently and waves play-on. Maritzburg's move eventually breaks down, but Jali is still on the floor and the medical staff are brought on to attend to the midfielder's injury.
26 Walters looks to launch a long pass for Cuthbert Malajila to chase down, but Siyabonga Sangweni does well to track the ball all the way and easily deals with the danger.
24 Mthokozisi Yende lets fly from a good 40-yards out, but his effort doesn't even come close to threatening Senzo Meyiwa in the Pirates goal.
23 Peter Petersen does really well to block Oupa Manyisa from getting down the wing, and the United defender does even better to win his side a free-kick after stealing possession off the Bucs man.
20 Martizburg have a corner now, but they might have gotten a goal there as Buckley plays a brilliant reverse-pass to play Cuthbert Malajila clean through on goal, but his touch is too heavy and he eventually plays the ball out off the keeper. The resulting set-piece is easily dealt with by Pirates, who now have the ball back.
17 Very open match here at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium as the ball flows from one side of the field to the other, but neither keeper has yet been forced to make a real save.
14 David Booysen has just prevented Pirates from taking the lead, getting the slightest of toes on the ball after Klate's cut-back appeared to be set up perfectly for Mbesuma to smash towards target.
12 YELLOW CARD: First booking of the night comes after just 12 minutes, with Shu-Aib Walters seeing yellow for apparent dissent towards the referee.
11 The Team of Choice work themselves a great chance as Terrence Mandaza does brilliantly to control a long ball with his chest inside the area, but he slips at the crucial moment and the defenders can sweep up the mess.
9 Pirates have a corner now which Daine Klate whips in, but it fails to clear the first man. He gets another bite at the cherry and this time puts in a decent ball, but no-one in a Pirates shirt can get on the end of it the pressure on the Maritzburg defence is eased.
7 Ntshumayelo almost gets Pirates into a world of trouble as he comes to intercept a pass, only to see the ball bounce clear past him, but Maritzburg are unable to make the most of their chance as Cuthbert Malajila runs the ball out of play after breaking into the area.
5 Excellent work from Delron Buckley now who dances his way down the middle of the pitch before spreading the ball out wide, but David Booysen's cross is a poor one and goes straight to the goalkeeper.
4 Pirates enjoying plenty of the ball so far, but Daine Klate's attempted cross into the area is completely miss-hit and loops well out for a goal-kick.
3 The Sea Robbers are on the front foot against and Collins Mbesuma tests Shu-Aib Walters with a low drive, but the keeper is equal to the challenge and makes a decent save.
2 First attack of the night now as some excellent one-touch play out wide ends with a ball being clipped over the top for Thandani Ntshumayelo to chase, and although he catches up with the pass he lashes wildly at the ball in a very wide position and the ball zips out for a goal-kick.
1 And we're up and running!
Referee Daniel Bennett is in charge for this one and is getting the coin toss out the way, meaning we're just moments away from the start.
And here come the players, Maritzburg in their traditional blue and white stripes and Pirates in all-red.
FEEDBACK: One of our regular readers, Nazly from Cape Town, is the first to email in and writes: 'Might be a pretty tight match tonight, but I think Pirates will eventually come out on top 2-1.'
We're less than 10 minutes away from the kick-off now, and the two sets of players are lining up in the tunnel and will be led out by the referee shortly.
Speaking to Football411 ahead of tonight's game, Pirates coach Roger de Sa said: "It is always difficult to play against Maritzburg United and maybe a little easier this time around because it is a neutral ground. They have had a good season, but it is important for us to win every game we play."
FEEDBACK: I'll be here all evening, so why not keep me company and email your thoughts or predictions for tonight's game to ryan.gordon@teamtalkmedia.com and I'll share them here for our other readers to enjoy.
Maritzburg may not be able to climb higher than their current placing of fourth this weekend, but a win against Pirates would go a long way in cutting the nine point gap between themselves and leaders Chiefs. The Team of Choice do, however, need to snap their current losing streak, with the side's phenomenal early-season run being brought to an end following back-to-back defeats against Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town respectively.
The Buccaneers enter the tie second in the PSL standings, but could finish tonight tied at the top with bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who only play 24 hours later at home against the University of Pretoria. Lose, however, and the Sea Robbers could end the weekend six points adrift of the summit with only one match remaining in 2012.
